Copy

This peace of work is a copy of a piece of lord of the rings art that I found on the internet. The picture is of the entire fellowship of the ring and was originally created using digital art software.

For my copy, I started off by drawing the characters in pencil on a piece of A3 paper...

After drawing the copy in pencil, I took it to the light box and traced the pencil lines on another sheet of A3 paper using a ink brush pen. The ink brush pen gave a brilliant cartoony effect to the lines of the drawing which was what I wanted to achieve ...

Once I had finished the Ink lines, I scanned the picture into photoshop for partial editing and colouring. I coloured the ink lines by altering the threshold on photoshop and then deleting the white background. then i created new layer underneath the line drawing and used the paint brush tool to add colour...

As I coloured the copy, I started from Frodo at the bottom and made my way along the page to Gandalf at the top right... then moved on across the other half up towards Aragorn in the top left...

after the characters were coloured I then needed to colour the ring in the middle and the text inside the ring...

Once I had finished the inner circle of the image, I had finished the main colouring of my copy. All that was left to do at this point was the background. I added a blue piece of sea just behind the main characters, and a red to yellow gradient to simulate a sun setting sky...

These last two photos are the finished result compared to the original piece of art...
(original).

(my copy).

I am Happy with my finished copy, and I am going to use the same style of drawing and colouring in my emulation.

Photos of subject matter

This page is full of my photo's of subject matter for my lord of the rings comic book cover. Most of the photographs are of trees, natural views and stone that are rather inspiring towards my work, and have given me ideas.
